What Defines You?

Child of God,

“He has delivered

You from the domain

Of darkness

And transferred you

To the kingdom

Of His beloved Son,

In whom you have

Redemption,

The forgiveness of sins.” (Col. 1:13-14)

You’ve been relocated.

Your citizenship has been transferred.

You aren’t in the kingdom for a visit.

You haven’t travelled and gotten a passport stamp.

You aren’t in the light on a visa.

The kingdom of His beloved Son

Is your permanent domain.

You can’t be snatched back to the darkness

Or repatriated to the flesh.

Oh, you might have bad days

And dabble in the darkness occasionally,

But you can no more be called a

Citizen of the darkness

Than I could be called a South Carolinian

Just because I crossed the border to

Visit Myrtle Beach.

The dark days don’t define you—

Your citizenship tells the tale.

You’ve been transferred to the kingdom of light.
