You’re Not a Slave to Sin

Child of God,
You are no slave to sin.

Paul says it plainly:
“[Your] old self was crucified
With Him
In order that the body of sin
Might be brought to nothing,
So that [you] would no longer
Be enslaved to sin.” (Romans 6:6, ESV)

It means you aren’t a worthless sinner
Stumbling through life
Until you finally get to Heaven—
It means you are treasured saint
Already joined to Christ
But who also still sometimes stumbles.

Your definition as a sinner
Died on the cross with Christ.
Your new identity as a saint
Was born by the same resurrection power
That brought Jesus out of the tomb.

Child of God,
Temptation will come,
But you are no slave to sin.
