The Power of Better Blood

Oh Cain!

“What have you done?” (Genesis 4:10, ESV)

The all-knowing Creator was not asking

Because He needed information;

It wasn’t really a question

As much as a moan:

“Ohhhh Cain. Ohhhh, what have you done?”

Instead of celebrating his younger sibling’s blessedness,

Cain was eaten with jealousy,

And, in sin-ravaged anger,

The first child born on earth killed his baby brother.

So, I bless you, child of God, to celebrate your adoption

Into a family that has a perfect big Brother!

You have become the younger sibling to the

Best Big Brother Ever!

Christ, the Firstborn of all Creation,

Did not complain of your undeserved blessedness—

He died to secure it!

Now, for all eternity, heaven

Does not call out for an answer for Cain’s sin—

Heaven cries out the solution for all sin—

Christ, the firstborn, has died in the sinner’s place!
