A Declaration of Peace

With the multitude of angels
I declare to you:

“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace ….”

The angelic army didn’t
Originate the peace—
They announced it.

The heavenly host didn’t
Create the peace—
But they conferred it.

When the jury finds the defendant
“Not guilty”
And the judge declares
“You are free to go,”
The judge’s announcement
Does not create the liberty
But puts into effect
The freedom that has already been settled.

Receive Christ’s peace,
Announced by angels,
Announced again:
Glory to God
And peace to you.
