There’s something sweet to learn
From one of the Jewish Passover songs.

Dayenu!
It would have been enough,
The beloved Seder song declares:

If He had brought us out from Egypt
And had not carried out judgments against them—
Dayenu, it would have been enough.

If He had brought us into the land of Israel,
And not built for us the Holy Temple—
Dayenu, it would have been enough!

Those in Christ have an even greater song of thanks:
If God has just saved me from my sins,
Given me assurance of Heaven forever,
It would have been enough.

But He gave us more!
He gave us an inheritance
And made us co-heirs with Him.
He gave us His own Spirit
And filled us with His own abundant life.
He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing.

May you have eyes to see
How much God has done for you in Christ
And may your heart declare “Dayneu”—
It would have been enough to just be forgiven,
But, ah, He has done so much more.
So much more.
