The Good News of Christ’s birth was personal to the shepherds and to YOU.
I’m glad Rick Warren’s famous, all-time, best-selling book, The Purpose Driven Life starts with the powerful words: “It’s not about you.” The opening sentence is not only a correction to the self-absorption of secular culture, it’s also a reminder to Christians that life centers around the glory of God, not our personal ambitions.
That said, it’s equally important to remember this Christmas that the message of good news to the shepherds was exquisitely personal: “Unto you is born this day….” The shepherds were uneducated youths, obscure, unnoticed. But the greatest news the world has ever known was announced to them quite personally. The Good News is global, but it is also personal. Every year, I like to pause for a moment and put my name in there— “Unto you, Alan, is born this day…” Put your name in there. Hear the angel’s words personally. God not only loves the world—He loves YOU.
Receive today’s blessing rooted in Luke chapter 2:
* * *
God rest YOU merry.
For unto YOU is born…
A Savior.
Christ, the Lord.
God notices what no one else notices—
Shepherds in the quiet fields of David’s small town
And silent longings, griefs and prayers
In the quiet places of your heart.
He sees YOU.
He smiles upon YOU.
He was born for YOU.
I bless YOU to have a merry Christmas!

And that’s the Gospel!
