A Blessing to Escape Enemy Territory

I bless your spiritual eyes

To see beyond the predicament

Of Babylon

And into the promise

Of Restoration.

Receive God’s word

To the Hebrew exiles:

“Keep your voice from weeping…

For… they shall come back

From the land of the enemy.” (Jer. 31:16)

You are not destined to dwell

“In the land of the enemy”—

Child of God.

You belong to God.

You belong with God.

May these temporary afflictions

Never convince your soul

That you are stuck in Babylon.

You won’t stay in the land of the enemy.

You’re passing through enemy territory—

Not camping out for good.
