A Blessing to Reject False Gods
I bless your spiritual eyes
To recognize
The “gods who did not make
The heavens and the earth.” (Jer. 10:11)
To see the counterfeits…
To recognize the imposters…
To expose the pretenders…
To tear down every idol!
“Like a scarecrow in a field,
Their idols cannot speak;
They must be carried
Because they cannot walk.” (Jer. 10:5)
Whatever the idol—
Approval, Fame, Riches—
It claims to offer relief,
But, instead, becomes a burden.
“They must be carried…”
The idol is heavy and burdensome.
“Look at you,” the idol taunts,
“You haven’t enough ______”
(It matters not how you fill in the blank).
The idol that promises security
Strips you of all peace as it
Cries, “Never enough.”
But there is no one like our God!
He is the Maker of heaven and earth!
You don’t carry Him—
He carries you,
Child of God,
Your Father carries you.
