David’s beloved son, Absalom,
Turned against his father,
The Lord’s anointed king.
Is there a greater pain
Than the rebellion of a beloved child?
David discovered the deeper pain,
When he got the news of his rebellious son’s death.
When Absalom was killed, David cried,
“O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom!
Would I had died instead of you, O Absalom, my son, my son!”
(2 Samuel 18:33, ESV)
In David’s broken heart,
Catch a glimpse of the Father’s heart.
Humanity rebelled against God,
Yet He did what David only wished he could do.
He died in the place of His rebellious children.
May the weeping love of God
Quiet every fear that He is disappointed in you.
May His grace run so deep
That you live each day
So conscious of His love that
Rebellion could never tempt you, ever.
