You can rejoice today because, if for no other reason, God made this day!
With my heart saturated with expectancy in anticipation of my new book on blessing coming out in February, I’m delighted to offer each day not just a devotional thought from scripture but also a blessing for the day—a positive, faith-filled, scripture-infused vision for your life.
One of the dearest matriarchs in our church (who is now in heaven) started every day with the words, “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Before her feet hit the floor, every day of her life, those were here words. After preaching her memorial service, I decided to start doing the same. Admittedly, there are days that I forget—days that begin with, “I don’t feel rested,” or “Ugh, can I just stay in bed today.” But, thankfully, we do have a choice—we get to choose our first words.
Receive today’s blessing built from Psalm 118:24:
There are plenty of challenges in every day.
Any day can present a conflict in need of resolution.
Any day can present a battle in need of fighting.
Any day can present a mountain in need of climbing.
But every day, every single day, you have a cause,
A choice,
A claim.
You can rejoice.
Today, this day, you have cause to rejoice and be glad
Simply because God made the day.
Bad things happen in our days,
But there are no bad days because God makes no bad things.
So, I bless you to marvel in the day just because it exists
And you’re alive to see it.
This is the day the Lord has made;
May you rejoice and be glad in it!
Everything that God makes is good, including this day. And that’s the Gospel!
