I bless you to grow in stature.
After Christmas, after the manger,
After the shepherds and magi and Herod’s danger,
What happened?
Jesus grew.
Luke tells us that the Messiah grew
In Wisdom
And Stature
And Favor.
God grew taller.
Yes, Jesus was sinless and perfect…
And gaining height every day.
You aren’t, of course, made to grow physically taller forever.
Whew!
You’d outgrow every pair of pants (and every bed and ceiling)!
But you are made to grow in your standing.
You’re made for increase in influence.
I bless your place among your peers—
Your stature in your surroundings.
May you flourish and grow in health and strength
All your days!

Today’s blessing is inspired by:
Luke 2:52 (ESV) — 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.
I love the image of the sinless Son of God growing—physically maturing, increasing in height and strength. It’s a good picture of what God wants for us, first in our bodies and then in our souls. You can’t keep growing in physical stature forever, but you certainly can grow figuratively in your stature all your days. And that’s the Gospel!
