I bless the favor of God
On your life!
When you live according to the law,
You get only what you earn.
But you, adopted child,
Are no longer under the law (Rom. 6:14).
You are under the
Right hand of grace.
As such, the best things
In your life are
And always will be
Unearned.
Unmerited.
Free.
Unexpected.
Better than you could acquire by
Human effort.
Beloved, in Christ, you are
Fully qualified “to share in the inheritance
Of the saints” (Col. 1:12).

Part of today’s blessing is excerpted from the parting blessing in my new book, The Power to Bless, releasing February 2 (Baker Books). Pre-order it today and you’ll get a free audiobook!
When Joseph brought his boys to be blessed by their grandfather, Jacob, the old patriarch did a strange thing—he crossed his arms, placing his right hand on the younger boy’s head. Joseph tried to correct his father (because custom required the older son to receive the stronger, right hand blessing). But Jacob insisted. He crossed his arms again and put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh. It’s a picture of grace—unmerited favor—that points to the day God crossed His arms and offered you the blessing of the firstborn, Jesus. And that’s the Gospel!
