The Blessing of the Rod and Staff

Bless you, little lamb.

No need to fear evil,

Your shepherd is with you.

May His rod and staff comfort you.

Even in the darkest valley

You need not be afraid because

The Lord, the Shepherd, is strong and tender.

See that rod? No wolf can survive its blow.

See that staff? No lamb can wander from its crook.

When the valleys are lowest

And the shadows are darkest,

Your shepherd is most wide-eyed—

Most ready—

To draw you near with His staff

And to repel the predator with His rod.

So, fear not little lamb.

The Good Shepherd, Jesus,

Is not willing for you to get lost

And He is not willing for the devil to win.
