Clothed with Power

From on High.

God knows you can’t

Live the Christian life

By your own strength!

Who can love an enemy?

Who can forgive the undeserving?

Who can rejoice amidst persecution?

Who can heal the sick?

Who can cast out evil?

God knows you can’t

Fulfill one shred

Of the high ideals

And glorious invitations

Of the Christian life

By your own efforts.

So, as He promised

The early disciples,

He promises that you will be:

Clothed with Power

From on High.

Feeling weak?

Despair not,

Child of God,

You never were supposed

To be strong—

That’s God’s job,

That’s God’s promise,

You will be clothed with power

From on High.
