A Blessing to Embrace the Holy

Most say Joseph

Planned to divorce his betrothed

Because he suspected her unfaithful.

But I take the minority view—

Joseph didn’t doubt Mary.

He knew her too well.

Maybe Joseph planned to remove

Himself from Mary

Because he believed her!

Maybe Joseph knew that

She really had been chosen

As the mother of the Messiah

And so he respectfully

Distanced himself from the holy event.

The angel’s dreamy reassurance,

“Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid

To take to you Mary as your wife,” (Matt. 1:20)

Was divine permission to connect his life to the holy!

Joseph was no sidekick—

He was a son of David,

A man of God and holy heritage!

And, you child of God,

Be not afraid to draw near to the holy.

You are an heir of God,

Co-heir with Christ.

I bless you to link your life

With God’s holy, holy plans.

Be not afraid, sons and daughters of God,

Be not afraid.
