A Blessing to Unburden

May every burden

That weighs on your shoulders

The prophet’s promise:

“For to us a child is born

To us a Son is given;

And the government shall be

Upon His shoulder.” (Isaiah 9:6)

His shoulder,

Not yours.

The whole, heavy rule

Is on His shoulders,

Not yours.

The whole, ponderous plan

Is on His shoulders,

Not yours.

The whole, weighty responsibility

Is on His shoulders,

Not yours.

So I bless you to

Let the burdens you’ve

Been shouldering roll

To the Messiah’s back.

His shoulders are broad

And strong,

Child of God,

Broad and strong.
