The Blessing of an Appointment

“Before you were born …
I appointed you….” (Jer. 1:5)

Before you were born,

God saw you,

Knew you,

And appointed you

To bless the world.

You have not arrived

To this place in your life

By popularity contest

Or by popular vote—

You have been appointed.

An appointment is different

Than a vote.

There is an appointer

And an appointee.

There is no ballot.

No referendum.

No straw poll.

There is no show of hands.

No tally.

No hanging chads.

“Before you were born …

I appointed you…,” God says.

The mission before you today

May be light and breezy

Or heavy and momentous,

But be blessed in this,

Child of God,

You were assigned the challenge—

You are God’s appointee.
