In Peter’s salutation:
“To those who are elect exiles.” (1 Peter 1:1).
Chosen permanently,
Rejected occasionally.
You have been
“Born again to a living hope…
To an inheritance that is imperishable…
Kept for you in heaven” (1 Peter 1:3-4).
And
“For a little while…
You have been grieved by various trials…” (1 Peter 1:6).
No need to despair if
The world treats you like a misfit—
You’re a citizen of an invisible kingdom.
Of course, they aren’t going to understand
You, child of God.
Just remember that the “various trials”
Are “for a little while.”
Just remember that the “inheritance”
Is “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading.”
Being “elect” is forever.
Being an “exile” is for a blink of an eye.
