May the consolation
Of the Holy Spirit
Fill you so deeply today
That you experience Jesus’ promised blessing:
“Blessed are those that mourn,
For they shall be comforted.” (Matt. 5:4)
May you recognize and reject
The false prophecies of
Jeremiah’s foes who
“Have healed the wound
Of God’s people lightly,
Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
When there is no peace.” (Jer. 6:14)
Those who refuse
To face life’s losses
And pretend to have no grief
Forfeit the sweet gift
Of the Spirit’s comfort
That comes uniquely
To those who mourn.
But not so with you,
Child of God.
I bless you to be brave—
To dare to walk through problems
Rather than around them—
Knowing that God walks
With you.
There is a blessing for those
Who mourn—
A gift awaits those who weep
