I bless you to be
Smitten
By the beauty of
God’s holiness
As was Jeremiah.
Your English translation
Won’t dare to render it such,
But, in one of his raw, honest moments,
Declared: “O Lord,
You seduced me
And I was seduced.” (Jer. 20:7)
It’s the word used to describe
What they wanted Delilah to do
To Samson (Judges 16:5)
And the word the Lord uses
To describe how He would
Allure His people after exile (Hos. 2:14).
God is more like a gentleman
Courting his beloved
Than a hunter capturing his prey.
He goes to unsearchable lengths
To woo you
So that you fall in love with Him.
He wants to intrigue you,
Not suffocate you.
He wants to attract you,
Not smother you.
He wants you to want Him.
May you see Him in His splendor
And find your heart falling for Him afresh!
O, worship the Lord
In the beauty of His holiness. (Psalm 96:9)
