I bless your bones
To feel God’s call
Like a fire
Burning
In your marrow—
A blaze of grace
And power
And truth
That can’t be snuffed
Even if you were to try.
Jeremiah wanted to stop—
To stop preaching,
To stop prophesying,
To stop proclaiming
But he could not.
When he tried to contain
The fire
He “became weary with holding it in”
And he could not.
The attempt to extinguish
The fiery call of God
Left him more spent
Than did the cost of preaching
The name of the Lord.
So Jeremiah kept going
Because the fire kept burning.
I bless the burning of the Spirit
In you, child of God.
Let His love blaze in the depths
Of your soul—
Let His love blaze.
