I bless you on this Maundy Thursday,
The Thursday before Easter,
From the Latin word for mandate—
The command to “do this in remembrance of me,”
The command to love like Jesus,
To serve like Jesus.
It was the day of the Last Supper,
The communion of the Lord with his disciples
When He took a towel and took on the form of a servant
And washed his disciples’ feet
Including the one who would betray Him
And the one who would deny Him three times.
I bless you to receive the servant ministry of Jesus.
At first, Peter didn’t want the Messiah to wash his feet,
But the Savior informed the impetuous disciple:
“If I don’t wash you, you have no part of me.”
“No part” meant no inheritance.
So Peter changed his mind – wash all of me!
And I bless you to receive the full inheritance
Found only in the ministry of Jesus –
The ministry of the cross where your sins are washed clean.
Receive in full the gift of Jesus.
Let Him wash you. Let Him wash you.
