May you triumph
Over temptation
Not in the manner
Of Odysseus who shackled
Himself to the ship mast
Forbidding his sailors to release
Him no matter how alluring the
Sirens’ songs.
You are made more
To be like Jason,
Who brought on board
The world’s best musician.
When the Sirens’ began
Singing their tempting songs,
Orpheus played his lyre
Much more beautifully
So Jason and his sailors
Cared not for the lesser songs
Of the deceptive, murderous Sirens.
“Oh the depths of the riches
Of wisdom and knowledge of God!” (Rom. 11:33, ESV)
Oh how much more glorious
Is your Messiah’s song—
Be enamored today by the sound of the Gospel
And sail by every temptation.
