The Power of Being Called

Take heart, Beloved, You’ve been called by God. Paul said it succinctly in His Romans salutation: “To all those in Rome Who are loved by God And called to be saints” (Rom. 1:7, ESV). Called to be His holy ones. His call isn’t a mere offer. It isn’t like me calling a buddy, “Hey, you want to play some golf?” But His call isn’t a law either. It isn’t like my mom calling Me in at dark while I was Playing kick the can in the front yard On a long, lazy summer night: “Alan, come in, it’s bedtime!” I didn’t want to go but I had to go Because it was a law. The call of God is like The Son of God standing outside A dead man’s tomb and shouting: “Lazarus, come forth!” His call has power. Irresistible effect. And His call is no mere law— It is life! You’ve been called, Beloved. You’ve been called.
