Your Spiritual Appetite

It need not take a crisis
Or a problem
Or a heartache
To make you hungry for God.

The way God best whets
Our spiritual appetite
Is by granting us a sample
Of His goodness.

Peter says we
“Long for the pure spiritual milk…
If indeed [we] have tasted
That the Lord is good” (1 Peter 2:2-3).

Babies don’t wake up crying in the night
Longing for a supersized sugary soda—
They wake up craving milk
Because milk is what tastes good!

I’m blessing your spirit today
To smell and taste and love
The goodness of God—
When you sample His grace,
Nothing else will satisfy.
