Taking Your Promised Land

I bless you
To fight in the Spirit
Not so you can make
The Promised Land yours—
But because the
Promised Land is yours.

Like the Hebrews
Marching forward with Joshua
Into Canaan,
You are empowered not
By the possibility of earning
A blessing,
But by the guarantee of a blessing.

They took the land
Because it was their land—
Because it was their inheritance.

There is spiritual territory
For you to occupy
Simply because it has been promised
To you!

What God has announced to be yours
Is for you to appropriate,
Child of God!
Joy, Love, Peace? —
Yours in the Spirit!
Life, hope, wholeness?
Yours in Christ!

You’re empowered
Not by your attempt
To be blessed
But by the certainty
That you are blessed!
