I bless you to look long
At little, unworried things,
Like lilies
And sparrows.
“Look at the birds of the air:
They neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns,
And yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not of more value than they?
Consider the lilies of the field,
How they grow: they neither toil nor spin,
Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory
Was not arrayed like one of these” (Mathew 6:26-29).
When worry rushes in,
Unwelcome,
Unruly,
Untimely,
May your eyes turn
Toward the unfazed flora
And unflustered fowl.
May your heart be
As unworried as a wildflower,
As unconcerned as a bird in flight.
