May you see the broken world
Through the Savior’s eyes
And discover His empathy
For an immoral culture.
When Jesus rode humbly
Into the city that would slay Him
He was wiping tears
Instead of pointing fingers.
He was yearning within
Rather than raging without.
“And when he drew near and
Saw the city, he wept over it, saying,
‘Would that you, even you, had known
On this day the things that make for peace!
But now they are hidden from your eyes.’” (Luke 19:41–42, ESV)
He wept because He saw
The spiritual blindness of the people.
He wept for the city
That would crucify Him
Because He knew their eyes
Were veiled to the gift of God
In their midst.
May you see the lostness
Of the broken world as Jesus sees
So your fears and frustrations will melt
And your heart will yearn, and pray, and believe.
