I bless your soul
To be rapt with wonder
At the greater Glory
Of God’s New Covenant grace.
The ancient holy mount
Was wrapped
In a holy cloud
As the Lord of Glory
Descended in fire.
Sinai shook.
People trembled.
Moses spoke.
“God answered him in thunder:
‘Go down and warn the people,
Lest they break through to the Lord
To look
And many of them perish.’” (Ex. 19:21)
The Old Covenant arrived
In glory—
Mountain-shaking,
Eye-blinding,
Knee-knocking
Glory.
But the fire and light and wonder
Of the Old
Is Nothing
Compared to the New:
“If there was Glory
In the ministry of condemnation,
The ministry of righteousness,
Must far exceed it in glory.” (2 Cor. 3:9)
What you have,
New Covenant child of God,
Is far more glorious than
The arrival of stone tablets
That made Mt. Sinai quake—
You have received
“The Spirit of the Living God!” (2 Cor. 3:3)
Who, in you,
Can shake the world.
