Grandbaby Mia turns two today.
She doesn’t know it yet,
But she’s getting a toy shopping cart
Because she loves pushing a grocery cart
Around the Harris Teeter.
Now she’ll be able to push it around the house too.
She also loves her toy kitchen.
And she’s really good at cleaning
A restaurant table with an antiseptic wipe.
Ever wonder why little kids yearn
To do the tasks we adults have dubbed drudgery?
What happened on the path to adulthood
That made our work feel so much like work?
What happened after the Fall
That made Adam’s gardening vocation so toilsome?
When sin came, so did fear.
Fear of not being enough, not doing enough.
Fear of failing. Fear of being rejected.
When fear gets into our work, it feels like work.
But if the pressure lifts,
And you remember that you’re fully accepted
In the Beloved,
Work becomes a gift again.
So push your shopping cart around with joy!
