The Trapeze Blessing

Life is a trapeze act
(Paul Tournier once said).
Sometimes you have to
Let go
Of a perfectly good swing
To take hold
Of a new bar
That will swing you to new heights.

I bless you in the letting go.

It’s hard to unclasp
A sturdy trapeze in hand
For only the promise
Of a better swing.

But, you do not walk by sight—
You walk by faith.
You can see in the Spirit.
You can hear God when He beckons:

“Let go now!”

When you do,
You discover that
This acrobatic life
Doesn’t actually invite us
To grasp a new bar—
It invites us to be grasped
By the strong arms of God
Who swings toward us
With perfect timing.

“Surely I am with you always,” (Matt. 28:20)
Says Jesus.
He’s always there to catch you.
