May you break through
To gladness knowing that
The good news of great joy
Didn’t come to the shepherds
On a cute Christmas card—
It came with thunderous power.
“Host” is a military term—
Stratia in Greek, signifying rows of troops,
(Think “stratify).
When the heavens opened
Before the shepherds
It wasn’t an assortment of
Christmas angel ornaments on display—
It was a massive army.
You could read it like this:
And suddenly
With the angel there were
Rows and rows of heavenly beings
Forming a huge, angelic army
Praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest
And on earth peace ….”
There’s a whole army
In Heaven fighting for your joy,
Child of God,
A big, glorious, army.
