A Blessing to Fear the Lord

I bless your spirit

To fear the Lord –

Not to be afraid

Of the Lord,

But to be in awe of Him

For it is in the revelation

Of God’s grandeur

That earthly fears lose their status.

When the fearful disciples

Thought the Galilean storm

Was going to sink their boat

While Jesus slept,

They cried:

“Do you not care?”

The Savior did care.

(He does care).

When Christ commanded the storm

To cease,

You’d think the disciples would have been calmed—

But they were “filled with great fear”

And wondered “what manner of man is this?” (Mark 4)

They were more in awe of the Messiah’s power

Than the storm’s power

And that was their ticket to liberation

From earthly fear.

May you discover such awe of Christ

That earthly fears lose their sway.
