May the joy of Easter
Overwhelm the weariness of
All that’s been hard
And long
And sad.
I love the description of the women
At the empty tomb:
“They departed quickly from the tomb
With fear and great joy and ran….” (Matt 28:8)
Really?
Two modest,
Well- garbed,
First century
Jewish women
Running through a Garden
Past the villagers
Through the alleys?
They’d been through too much—
The betrayal,
The bogus trial,
The whippings,
The bleeding,
The dying
Of the Messiah, they loved so
Purely and deeply.
The empty tomb, the angel,
The sudden realization that,
He’s Alive!
Made their hearts pump.
They were alive!
May you be more alive than ever
In the joy of Easter.
