I bless you to have
“Object permanence”
In your spiritual vision.
It’s the psychologists’ term
For the game-changing stage of development
When a baby understands
That objects continue to exist
Even when they can’t be seen.
Up to the fourth month of life
The baby doesn’t understand
That if Mommy leaves the room
She still exists.
She’s still there,
Little one.
She’s just stepped into the kitchen.
She will be back to hold you soon.
But you must grow up a little
To understand that
Just because you can’t see or feel Mommy
That she’s just as real
And that she’s going to take care of you.
“Just as I was with Moses,
So I will be with you.
I will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Josh. 1:5)
God came to Moses in a blazing bush—
A sign, a marvel.
But God came to Joshua with just His Word,
“The Book of the Law… you shall meditate on it
Day and night.” (Josh. 1:8)
Whether you see me or feel me,
Know for sure, I am with you.
If you face a new challenge
And can’t feel the presence and power of God
Amidst the struggle,
He’s still there,
Child of God,
He’s permanent.
