God is a Planner

God is a planner—

A planner of good things

For His children.

Like Anne’s preparation

For the delightful sabbatical

We were granted in 2010

When we loaded our 15-year-old

And 11-year-old

And a really big cooler

Into a Ford conversion van

And drove across the country and back

To see the parks and peaks

And canyons and cities

And rivers and reservoirs.

My wife, the planner, had it all set up—

The lodges, the parks, the daily schedule.

And she had prepared a package

For each child to open as we crossed

The border into each new state—

A bag full of education and fun about

The state.

She had line up horse rides and boat rides

And hiking trails and cultural events.

So, the kids just rode along

And waited for treasure around the next bend.

That’s what it’s like to have a planner

Rigging the adventure.

“I know the plans I have for you,

Declares the Lord” (Jeremiah 29:11, ESV).

Child of God.
