A Citizen of Heaven

I bless you today
To enjoy your
“Citizenship in heaven.” (Philippians 3:20)

In Paul’s words,
“Our citizenship is in heaven
And from it
We await a Savior,
The Lord Jesus Christ,
Who will transform
Our lowly body
To be like
His glorious body,
By the power that
Enables Him
To subject all things
To Himself.” (Phil 3:20-21)

You don’t await
A Savior
Who will, one day,
Grant you citizenship.

No.

You are a citizen
In good standing
But sojourning
In a foreign land.

Your visa is valid.
Your passport is up to date.
There’s no question
Where you belong.
One day, He’ll come and
You’ll be home.
In the in between time,
Enjoy your heavenly citizenship—
It comes with a lot
Of rights and privileges.
