What Hope is Not

I bless your spirit
To have hope,
Real hope,
The biblical grandeur of hope.

Hope.
Not wishful thinking.
Not pie in the sky delusions.
Not fingers crossed, nervous anticipation.

For you,
May it be real hope—
The inward bliss that accompanies
Deep certainty of future blessedness.

Hope.
Rooted in promises made and kept in Christ.
Empowered by the presence of the Spirit.
Confirmed by the surprising grace of God in this broken world.

“By the power of the Holy Spirit
You may abound in hope” (Romans 15:13).
