Yesterday’s traumas do not define you!
Former sorrows do not confine you!
I bless you to live in this moment!
Thirty years ago
I watched in my rearview mirror
As I sat in my Toyota Corolla
Trapped in a traffic,
Nowhere to go
And saw a car speeding too fast toward me
That, inevitably, was going to hit me…
And it did.
It didn’t total me or the car
But for months I couldn’t stop
Looking in the rearview mirror
Expecting someone else to rear end me.
Trauma is like that.
It affects your soul,
It rewires your brain,
To be anxious and hyper-vigilant.
No one has ever crashed into me again—
What a waste to be worrying about it.
Beloved, no matter what has hit you in the past,
Your life isn’t in the rearview mirror—
Your life is here, today—now.
By the grace of God,
The old is gone,
The new has come!
